Ever seen the movie, Waking Life ? Watching it felt like tripping on some bad acid. Come to think of it, whoever made that thing must have been on some strong shit. And I mean all that in the nicest, most complimentary manner possible because I loved that movie!
There's a part in the movie when this one guy was talking about having full control over what happens in one's own dreams. I like that idea. Think of how much fun we'd all have. So this guy says that once a person becomes aware that he's dreaming, he gains the ability to control what happens next. This guy screams, "FUN RULES!" Seems to me that what he's really saying is that in our dreams, we all have license to be impolite.
Think about your internal dialogue. Everyday, during your waking life, you must think about some pretty fuckin' awesome stuff. But does it ever get said? No. And why is that? Because we've all been pre-conditioned to be polite. Let's face it, some of the best ideas we have aren't exactly socially acceptable or politically correct.
I think it's a shame that so many ideas are lost because we're all so afraid of stepping on each other's toes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to go out and wail on people. I'm not saying that we should all lose our sense of socially acceptable behaviors for the sake of self-expression. I'm just saying that this is a pretty fuckin' awesome movie because it has something to say about us all with regards to human nature.
I think it was Carl Jung who said that it's in dreams that we can truly let loose and be ourselves and be the version of ourselves that we'd like to be. That it's in dreams that all of our neurotic tendencies can be played-out without consequence to others or ourselves. It's such a fuckin' trip to think that crazy dreams are what ultimately keep us sane.
